Thailand ready to combat bribery to boost foreign investors confidence

BANGKOK, 19 January 2012 (NNT) – The Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Mr. Kittirat Na Ranong, said Thailand is ready to provide cooperation in combating bribery in a bid to raise foreign investors’ confidence in the country.

Mr. Kittirat said to recoup investment confidence, the government places an emphasis on the transparency and openness of its projects. It is also ready to cooperate with the international community in bringing perpetrators to justice once Thailand signs the Convention on Combating Bribery on Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions.

Meanwhile, the National Anti-Corruption Commission President, Mr. Panthep Klanarongran, said during the seminar on “Anti Bribery on Foreign Public Officials” that this event is being held to raise awareness and combat corruption, which is also considered a crime under Thai law.

He said law enforcers will have to work harder in keeping corruption under control given reports of alleged involvment of a politician and an official from Thailand in bribery cases in the U.S. While the cases are not yet resolved, the NACC will be coordinating with related agencies in solving the issue.
