Thai PM asserts flood situation stable, no plan to announce disaster zones

BANGKOK, Oct 10 – Thailand’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said it needs not announce a national disaster at the moment, but has ordered canal dredging and reinforcement of flood prevention embankments to protect Bangkok from flooding.

After chairing a meeting on responding to the flood situation at the national flood relief centre at Don Mueang Airport Monday morning, the premier said the water situation is currently stable in many areas as there are currently no new storms coming. Rainfall during this time has little impact on the overall amount of water.
