Chiang Mai cleans up after flood, gears up for tourist season

CHIANG MAI, 7 October 2011 (NNT) – The northern province of Chiang Mai is now under renovation after the flood has subsided while preparations are being made ahead of the upcoming tourist season and special events late this year.

During a meeting to evaluate the local flood situation and the rehabilitation effort at the Chiang Mai Municipal Office, Chiang Mai Governor ML Panadda Disakul stressed to all relevant agencies to expedite the repair of damages on the utility system and provide assistance for people in need.

In the wake of the disaster, the Governor placed his priority on readying the province for the approaching Loy Krathong Festival and the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek during the high travel season later this year.

On this occasion, the Chiang Mai Municipality presented ML Panadda cash donation of over 170,000 THB acquired from local residents to be used on helping flood victims in the central region. The money was forwarded to the Government via Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Mai Tassanee Buranupakorn, who conveyed Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s appreciation for the joint effort by related officials and the general public to tackle the recent flood problem.
