Police, defence volunteer shot dead at Friday prayers in Yala mosque

YALA, Sept 16 — One police, one defence volunteer were shot dead, and three others were wounded by presumed insurgents during Friday prayers at a Yala mosque.

The two dead were identified as Pol Sr Sgt Maj Arong Malaya, a squad leader at Kota Baru in Raman district but assigned to duties at the Southern Border Provinces Police Operations Centre and Mahama Yama, a defence volunteer in Kabang district.
