Thailand’s Southern insurgency reduced so far

BANGKOK, 18 August 2011 (NNT) – Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre (SBPAC) Secretary-General, Panu Uthairat, has indicated that the situation in the 3 southern most provinces has improved as more residents have been helpful to the authority.

The levels of insurgency and violence have been reduced to a certain extent with local cooperation. Since then insurgents have been reluctant to instigate violence while some of them have turned themselves in to the police.

The Secretary General said the key to keep violence under control was the cooperation from local residents. They are urged to watch for unusual activities or keep a close eye on their family members whether they have been coerced to join the extremists.
