Outgoing Thai PM Abhisit makes televised farewell address

BANGKOK, 4 August 2011 (NNT) – Outgoing Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will make a television address on Thursday night to report national economic and social situations before passing the administrative power to the new government.

According to outgoing Prime Minister’s Office Minister Satit Wonghnongtaey, Mr Abhisit recorded the address on Wednesday, and the tape will be aired on Thursday at 20.30 hrs. The outgoing prime minister will elaborate the national situation and national financial status to the public.

The televised address will be about ten minutes long and Prime Minister Abhisit will be talking about the past operation of the Democrat-led government in economic, social and security affairs, as well as foreign relations with neighbours and national reconciliation.

The report will also be made into booklets for the new government and the media. The National Economic and Social Development Board is revising it and it is expected to be completed on Thursday afternoon.

This will be the first time that national economic and social situation will be reported to the public upon a change of government.
