BANGKOK, 19 August 2011 (NNT) – Greenpeace Southeast Asia has encouraged the government to push forward a policy to develop a sustainable energy management system for greater security in terms of energy, economy, environment and social development.

Greenpeace Southeast Asia Campaign Manager Tara Buakamsri and sixteen representatives of the group on Thursday met with Deputy House Speaker Visuth Chainaroon and gave him 700 booklets on Thai energy reform to be distributed to MPs and senators.

Mr Tara explained that Greenpeace wanted parliamentarians to use the information provided to propel a drive towards an efficient energy management system of the country.

According to the campaign manager, parliamentarians are representatives of people and therefore should have a clear political policy to press on transparency and fairness in energy management for the sake of the national energy, economic, social and environmental security.

Mr Tara added that Greenpeace wants to encourage the new government to have a concrete policy to develop sustainable energy management based on clean renewable energy and efficient usage of energy with an complete energy centre distribution system.
