BANGKOK, 16 July 2011 (NNT) – A recent Suan Dusit Poll has revealed that most Thai people are in support of a military official to become the next minister of defense and wish to see the protection of the monarchy be carried out at haste.

The survey was conducted by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University during 12-15 July to gather opinions from civil servants, military officials and the general public regarding the qualifications of the incoming defense minister. The majority of 70.96 percent viewed that the person assuming the post should come from the military as he would need to have sound understanding of the military’s operation and also have the respect of all soldiers.

Meanwhile, 27.63 percent of the respondents preferred someone with extensive knowledge, capability and achievements. Asked about their expectations, 23.82 percent said the new minister should have integrity, uphold the military’s honor and good image and safeguard the national sovereignty to his best ability.
