Thai PM Abhisit to step down as Democrat leader if Party gains fewer votes than before

PHITSANULOK, 16 June 2011 (NNT) – Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has reaffirmed his intention to resign from the post if the party acquires fewer MP seats in the 3 July general election than in the previous one.

Mr Abhisit announced the intention upon his arrival at Phitsanulok Airport on Thursday morning, but also indicated that he would not quit if the Democrats swept more seats than any other parties although the number would be less than 170 the party used to gain. He however noted that he is ready to take responsibility if the party loses and fails to grab higher number of House seats.

The Democrat leader is confident that if the party is elected to be a government again, it will be able to end all violence attempts as well as unfairness in the society.
