Thai Interior Ministry warns insurgents stepping up attacks in deep South; one killed

PATTANI, Feb 19 — Deputy Interior Minister Thavorn Senneam on Saturday warned that insurgents operating in the deep South have stepped up unrest during 2011, while presumed insurgents shot dead a former member of the Tambon (Sub-district) Administration Organisation (TAO) of the southern-troubled Pattani province.

Mr Thavorn said that there were signs that insurgents in the three southern provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat have increased their violent attacks in line with their ‘seven steps plan’ this year to discredit the government of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.
