One person killed, 12 others wounded in new Yala bombing

YALA, Feb 21 – An explosion at a Yala supermarket killed one woman and wounded 12 other people in this violence-plagued province Monday afternoon, the second in eight days.

The blast set fire to nearby shops, a highway police vehicle and several motorcycles. The dead woman has not yet been identified.

According to a preliminary investigation, the bomb was attached to a motorcycle parked opposite a restaurant in Yala municipality and was triggered when a highway police car passed by, Pol Maj-Gen Chote Chawalwiwat, commander of the Yala provincial police said. The police are checking surveillance cameras to find the suspects.
