More bunkers being built at Thai-Cambodian border Monday

SI SA KET, Feb 18 — Construction of new bunkers and repairs of those damaged during the four days of clashes between Cambodian and Thai troops near the disputed border area will start Monday, said Somsak Suwansujarit, governor of Thailand’s Si Sa Ket province bordering Cambodia.

The Thai government has allocated sufficient budget to build some 450 new bunkers at Kantharalak border district for repairs for nearly 300 old bomb shelters which were damaged during the bloody four-day clashes which began Feb 4, said Mr Somsak, adding that work will start Monday.

The planned building of more bunkers in the border area will provide better security for Thai villagers in case of possible renewed fighting between both sides in future, he said.
