An assistant undertaker at Wat Phai Ngern Chotanaram has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for conspiring to hide and dispose of 2,002 aborted foetuses.

The sentencing followed charges laid after the discovery of thousands of foetus remains at the Bangkok temple in November last year.

The South Bangkok Criminal Court yesterday sentenced Suchart Phumee, an assistant undertaker at Wat Phai Ngern in Bang Kholaem district, to 8,008 months imprisonment (667 years) for the 2,002 offences he committed. Each offence carries a jail term of four months.
