Thai Gov hired Cambodian lawyers to help 7 Thais detained in Cambodia

BANGKOK, 5 January 2011 (NNT)-In its bid to secure the freedom of the seven Thais arrested and charged for illegally entering Cambodian territory,the Thai government has hired two Cambodian lawyers to defend them 7 Thai nationals against the Cambodian’s accusation.

According to Government spokesperson Panitan Wattanayagorn, if the defendants are brought to trial despite the uncertainty surrounding their case, the decision can be expected in a just a few days.

However, diplomatic efforts have been made in a bid to prevent the 7 Thais from being brought to Court and to clarify with the Cambodian government that they had no intention to trespass into Cambodia. Mr. Panitan said Thai-Cambodian relations remain strong despite the ongoing issue.
