Red Shirt anti-government protesters to rally Sunday in Bangkok
BANGKOK, Jan 8 — Police in the Thai capital will be able to maintain peace and order during rally planned for tomorrow by anti-government protesters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said Saturday.
Mr Suthep, who oversees national security affairs, urged the public not to be alarmed by the planned demonstration by the ‘Red Shirt’ movement demanding that the coalition government of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to release inner circle members of the UDD from their detention, saying the government would be able to maintain peace in the country.
UDD leaders announced earlier they would rally in the capital on the 10th and 19th of every month to remember UDD demonstrators killed during clashes with government security forces on April 10 on Ratchadamnoen Avenue and on May 19 at Ratchaprasong intersection.
