More illegal abortion clinics raided in Thailand

BANGKOK, 28 December 2010 (NNT) – A team from the Public Health Ministry has raided four illegal abortion venues in one day, expecting more to be found.

The four places found operating illegal abortion consisted of three clinics and one apartment within Bangkok. The team led by Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit confiscated a large number of medical equipments and medicines for abortion from the apartment alone.

Mr Jurin said the arrest was a follow-up after the finding of 2,002 aborted fetuses in a temple morgue. He added that four types of clinics which tend to provide illegal abortion services are those dealing with beauty, family planning, drug rehabilitation, and plastic surgery.
