Simultaneous bombings down South Thailand

Yala, 25 October 2010 (NNT) – Several bombs exploded simultaneously in the three southernmost provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani, and Yala.

Nine bombs exploded in four districts of Narathiwat; bombs in two other provinces went off in para-rubber fields.

Police from Yala province rushed to the bomb scene in the rubber field. Upon investigation, they said the bomber had set up a booby trap weighing about 1-2 kilograms under a tree. The bomb exploded when a 70-year-old rubber planter stepped on it, injuring the man in his left leg.

After the incident the Yala Governor has ordered authorities to warn locals to be careful of other possible bombings in public places where Buddhists usually gather.
