Devotees cool off at Songkran fest

WITH temperatures rising to 38 degrees recently, devotees at the Thai Buddhist Chetawan Temple in Petaling Jaya were only too happy to splash water on one another during the temple’s early Songkran Festival last weekend.

The festival, which will be celebrated in Thailand from today to Thursday, was held a bit earlier at the temple to accommodate those who are working. Thai nationals were among the devotees present.

“We wanted to give the Thais here an early new year celebration before they head back home to celebrate it with their families,” the temple’s resident monk Reverend Woon Kitisakh Panyatipo said.

“Like in previous years, we held a simple celebration which involves special prayers as well as the fun water splashing part which everyone looks forward to,” said Woon.
