Judges deny B5bn bribe offer to sway assets case

Rumours intended to ‘undermine the court’

The Office of the Judiciary has dismissed rumours that five of the nine Supreme Court judges in the Thaksin assets case have been offered bribes of one billion baht each.

Office spokesman Sitthisak Wanachakit said the rumours were groundless. The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions had never been tainted with bribery or graft.

Mr Sitthisak said the rumours were intended to undermine the court before Friday, when it will deliver the verdict on whether to seize 76 billion baht in assets belonging to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s and his family.

New Politics Party spokesman Samran Rodpetch claimed there was a rumour that five judges had been offered one billion baht each in bribes.
