Grenade attack in nightclub district

Police tightened security at all branches of the Bangkok Bank in the capital after an M26 hand grenade exploded at its Silom Road branch last night and another grenade was defused at the bank’s Rama II branch.

Deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau Pol Maj Gen Anan Srihiran last night ordered police to step up security at all branches of the bank after the two incidents.

The explosion, which happened about 9.45pm, damaged glass doors and windows at the entrance of the building of the bank’s Silom branch. No one was injured, according to Bang Rak police. Police blocked the road in front of the bank.

Witnesses told police they saw two men in black riding a motorcycle past the bank. The pillion passenger threw an object at the bank which exploded.

Another grenade was found at the Rama II branch about 10pm.
