BANGKOK, 5 April 2012 (NNT) – Thai Deputy Prime Minister Police Captain Chalerm Yubumrung said the government is planning to set up a new operation center to tackle unrest in southern border provinces, scheduled to commence operations next week.
Pol Capt Chalerm said the operation center, located in the Royal Thai Police headquarters, will meet with intelligence agencies and operating units on a weekly basis. The center’s members will include police officers who used to take charge of security affairs in the South.
He also insisted that the establishment of a new security command will not create redundancy in the task.
Touching on the Opposition’s criticism of the government response to the southern insurgency, the deputy premier said that instead of giving such a comment, the Democrat party should have collaborated more with the current government in solving the problem which might be better addressed without a difference in political parties.
He concluded that he is planning to have a personal discussion with Democrat MP Thavorn Senneam in a hope to create a constructive co-working atmosphere to solve the problem.
