Rabies Alert Issued Across Bangkok and Samut Prakan After Infected Dog Found
BANGKOK — Health authorities have declared a rabies alert in six districts of Bangkok and parts of adjacent Samut Prakan province after a stray dog tested positive for the deadly virus in Prawet district. The infected animal was discovered Tuesday in Chalermphrakiat Rama 9 Soi 49, prompting an immediate response from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and livestock officials.
The Department of Disease Control (DDC) Confirms Cases of Rabies-Infected Animals
The temporary control zone, effective until October 8, covers a five-kilometer radius from the infection site. Affected areas include Prawet (Nong Bon, Dok Mai, and Prawet subdistricts), Suan Luang (On Nut and Phattanakan), Saphan Sung (Thap Chang), Lat Krabang (Lat Krabang area), Bang Na (Bang Na Nuea), Phra Khanong (Bang Chak), and Bang Phli in Samut Prakan (Bang Kaew and Racha Thewa).
The Livestock Development Department’s Office Area 10 has mandated enhanced surveillance and vaccination efforts for dogs and cats in the designated zones. Residents are urged to avoid contact with stray animals and report any suspicious behavior to authorities.

Health officials emphasize that rabies is fatal without prompt treatment. Anyone bitten, scratched, or exposed to saliva from a potentially rabid animal must seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms include fever, agitation, and paralysis, with death occurring once clinical signs appear.
