Japanese Crown Prince Naruhito visits Thailand

BANGKOK, 26 June 2012 (NNT) – His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan arrived in Bangkok yesterday to commence his official visit to Southeast Asia. The Crown Prince’s visit is scheduled from June 25-27.

During the Royal Visit, Crown Prince Naruhito was first granted an audience with His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and met with Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at the Grand Palace. He later attended a private dinner, held by His Majesty the King and HRH Princess.

He also met with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at the Government House for an official welcome ceremony. Ms Yingluck hosted a tea reception in his honor.

Later, the premier held talks with the Crown Prince on long-standing bilateral relations between the two nations. Japan has been Thailand’s single largest trading partner and foreign investor, pumping $3.15 billion into the country in 2010.

Ms Yingluck further reassured the Crown Prince that Thailand places great importance on Japanese investors, particularly those rattled by last year’s supply chain-busting floods. She informed the visiting Prince Naruhito of the country’s progress in flood responses and defenses as well as water management and weather alert system integration.
