Teachers in Southern Thailand urged to follow safety measures

The teachers federation in the three Thailand’s southernmost provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani yesterday issued a four-point statement saying teachers were a main target of those behind the unrest in the region, and urged teachers to strictly follow security measures.

Federation deputy president Manop Boonthaviroj said the situation had worsened since 37-year-old teacher Khanit Lamnui was shot dead in Yala’s Raman district on Tuesday. Authorities needed to review and beef up security, measures he said, and teachers needed to follow them and not make the situation worse through a lack of discipline.
