Multi-color group protests Japan’s visa issuance for Thaksin

BANGKOK, 19 August 2011 (NNT) – The multi-color-clad Alliance of Patriots has handed a letter of protest to the Japanese Embassy against the possible issuance of entry visa to Japan for former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Supporters of the Alliance of Patriots, led by MD Tul Sitthisomwong, on Thursday gathered in front of the Japanese Embassy on Wireless Road in opposition to the Japanese government’s inclination towards granting Mr Thaksin a visa to enter Japan.

MD Tul submitted the protest letter to the secretary to the embassy while declaring that the group wanted to send a message to Japan that the ex-premier was a corrupt individual and should be extradited back to Thailand for his legal punishment. The secretary promised to deliver the letter to Tokyo for consideration promptly.

Commenting on the report that Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul had requested Japan to permit Mr Thaksin’s visit, MD Tul viewed the Minister’s action as in aid of the ex-premier. He thus cautioned Mr Surapong that he would become the one who put the new government in a hot seat.
