Heavy downpours and flashfloods expected in the North and South of Thailand

BANGKOK, 30 August 2011 (NNT) – Thailand’s Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in the lower North, Central, East and Northeast while the South is packed with strong winds and residents are urged to keep ashore in the Andaman and the Gulf of Thailand.

Residents living down the mountains in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Surat Thani, Phuket and Krabi provinces have been told to embrace flashfloods as a result of heavy downpours.

Large fishing boats are advised to take extra cautions when leaving the shore while the Meteorological Department advised small boats against going into the sea in the next couple of days.
