Thai Authorities warns of flash floods in north, northeast

BANGKOK, 15 July 2011 (NNT) – The National Disaster Warning Center (NDWC) has warned people residing in the northern and northeastern regions of Thailand about possible flash floods during this period.

According to NDWC Director Group Captain Somsak Khaosuwan, villagers residing in the North and Northeast may face flash floods due to continuous rain since 13 July 2011.

Areas with high risk are Seka, Srivilai and Sopisai districts in Bung Kan province, Fao Rai district in Nong Khai, Ban Muang district in Sakon Nakhon, Si Songkram and Plapak districts in Nakhon Phanom as well as Mae Chan district in Chiang Rai.

As a result, all related units should be alert to the potential disasters while villagers are asked to follow official advice as well as monitor news reports closely.
