State Railway of Thailand to build railway to facilitate transnational rail lines

BANGKOK, 23 July 2011 (NNT) – The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is prepared to build a railway from Nakhon Ratchasrima to Nakhon Phanom in the attempt to facilitate the transnational railway from China through Vietnam and Laos.

Following the 3rd GMS Summit, Nakhon Phanom Governor Mr. Somdee Kachayangyuen said the development of railway was mentioned in the 11th National Economic and Social Development Plan. Its objective is to prepare Thailand for transnational railway in the future. The 3 major railways will be built starting from Bang Bua district of Nakhon Ratchasima passing though Maha Sarakham, Roi-Et, Mukdahan before finishing at Nakhon Phanom, with a total length of 380 kilometers.

The second route will begin from Khon Kaen going through Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, Roi-Et, Mukdahan and finally in Nakhon Phanom. Meanwhile, the third one will begin from Udon Thani passing through Sakon Nakhon and Nakhon Phanom.
