Royal rainmaking unit launched to fight drought in Northeastern Thailand

UBON RATCHATHANI, 19 March 2011 (NNT) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has established a royal rainmaking unit in the lower northeastern region to alleviate residents’ hardship from severe drought.

Deputy Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Chatree Direksri presided over the opening ceremony of a royal rainmaking unit, which was set up by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives in cooperation with the Bureau of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation. As part of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s royal initiative project on drought mitigation, the unit will be responsible for five provinces in the Lower Northeast, consisting of Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen and Mukdahan.
