45 provinces in Thailand declared drought-stricken zones

BANGKOK, 21 March 2011 (NNT) – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has recently declared 45 provinces across the country drought-stricken zones, affecting over six million villagers.

According to DDPM Director-General Viboon Sanguanpong, there are 6,046,986 people in 1,678,003 households suffering from the drought crisis at present. About 1,726,736 rai of farmland is expected to be damaged by the dry spell.
