Intelligence official gunned down; Villager wounded in plantation bombing in Southern Thailand
PATTANI, Feb 17 – A Thai government intelligence official was killed in a shooting attack in Pattani, while a rubber tapper was wounded in a bombing on a Yala plantation on Thursday morning.
Sgt Abdulloh Kalong, 32, intelligence officer at Inkayuthboriharn Army Camp was shot in the head and neck as he drove a motorcycle with his wife, riding pillion on a road in Pattani’s Yarang district.
Two attackers followed them on a motorcycle and fired at Sgt Abdulloh. He was killed while his wife emerged unscathed. Officials initially believed the shooting was related to the muslim insurgency.
Thai Ranger wounded in Yala bombing
A Thai army volunteer ranger assigned to a teacher protection unit was wounded Wednesday in a bombing in violence-plagued Yala’s Raman district, according to officers at Kota Baru police station, another incident in the seven years of violence in the deep South.
