Thailand Earns 1.8 Billion Baht from Foreign Film Shootings

Thailand earned 1.8 billion baht from foreign film production teams shooting in the country last year, according to the Department of Tourism.

Director-General Supol Sripan of the Department of Tourism said statistics from the Thailand Film Office in the Tourism Development Office showed that 530 movies were filmed in Thailand, earning the country 1.8 billion baht in 2010, double the 900 million in 2009.

Popular film locations include Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai. Most film production teams came from India and Japan, Mr. Supol said, adding that he expected growth this year because the government offered incentives to film makers to use Thailand as locations for film shooting.
