Elephant tusks worth Bt10 mln seized at Suvarnabhumi Airport

BANGKOK, Jan 6 – The Thai authorities seized 69 elephant tusks and four other pieces of ivory, worth about Bt10 million (US$330,000) at Suvarnabhumi Airport, according to Prasong Poontaneat, Director-General of the Customs Department.

The tusks, weighing about 435 kilogrammes, were found in two boxes at a Thai Airways International warehouse on Wednesday.

They were smuggled from Mozambique and bound for Laos and were declared as personal goods.
