BANGKOK, Dec 4 – Thais throughout the kingdom and international well-wishers participating in celebrating His Majesty King Bhumibhol’s 83rd birthday are converging at venues countrywide, with public and private sectors sponsoring varied celebrations amid the festive atmosphere.
In Bangkok, festivities with exhibitions and shops take place from 5pm to midnight at the Royal Plaza, Si Ayutthaya Road, Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue, the area in front of the Supreme Court and the Siriraj Hospital premises.
“Our Land” is the theme for the nine-day official festival at the Royal Plaza, presided over by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Wednesday and to run through Dec 9.
The main exhibition, “Thai Culture under His Majesty”, is being held near the Royal Plaza’s main stage, showcasing the King’s contributions to culture and arts as well as his patronage throughout Thailand. Seven short movies were produced for this particular occasion and are showcased at a pavilion built by the Interior Ministry. The films are also screened free of charge at selected cinemas.
