Thai National Warning Center to moor two bouys to warn people of tsunami

SAMUTPRAKARN, 6 December 2010 (NNT)-The National Disaster Warning Center has sent out a ship to moor two new buoys in the Andaman Sea in the hope of being able to warn people ahead of tsunamis.

The ship yesterday set sail on a seven-day journey from Samutprakarn Province to the points in the Andaman Sea where the two buoys were to be moored,. The mooring of the two buoys is in a bid of the Center to study oceanic activities and monitor underwater pressures. The buoys will transmit movements caused by an earthquake, volcanic eruption, or coastal landslide and send the data to the Center via a satellite. The Center will study the information collected by the satellite and decide whether to issue a tsunami warning.
