Millions of Thais nationwide celebrate King’s birthday

BANGKOK, Dec 5 — Millions of Thai throughout the country offered alms to Buddhist monks early Sunday to celebrate their revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 83rd birthday.

Meanwhile the Marine Department will close river traffic for all vessels from noon for an illuminated boat procession along the Chao Phraya River that will take place this evening.

People from all walks of life, led by Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra, offered alms to 284 Buddhist monks in the plaza at Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Bangkok’s City Hall.

Similar alms offerings were also seen in upcountry throughout the country in the morning as token for His Majesty the King to be healthy and a recognition for his past valuable deeds.
