Foreign Ministry seeks to help Thai crew on vessel seized by Somali pirates

BANGKOK, Dec 27 – Thailand’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs is actively trying to help the crew aboard a Thai vessel seized by Somali pirates Friday in Omani waters in the Arabian Sea, a senior ministry official said on Monday.

Thani Thongpakdi, director-general of the foreign ministry’s Information Department, made the statement following media reports that the Thor Nexus was seized while it was enroute to Bangladesh from the United Arab Emirates.

The Agence-France-Presse (AFP) news agency quoted Andrew Mwangura of the East African Seafarers Assistance Programme as saying all 27 crew members are Thai and that the vessel was taken in the waters of Oman, some 350 nautical east of Salala port.
