Amnesty for illegal arms possession

The cabinet on Tuesday agreed on the need for legislation granting amnesty to people who illegally have war weapons in their possession and who return them to the authorities, acting government spokesman Panithan Wattanayagorn said.

Mr Panithan said this was a follow-up to a previous cabinet resolution that security agencies compile information about people who have illegal possession of war weapons and other military hardware.

The Information would be used in the government’s national reconciliation plan, he said.
