Activist seeks opposition party dissolution

BANGKOK, May 31 (TNA) – Lawyer of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) on Monday filed a complaint at Election Commission (EC) seeking the dissolution of the opposition Puea Thai Party, ally to the fugitive ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, for allegedly involving with the unlawful demonstrations of anti-government Red Shirts.

Nitithorn Lamlua, a PAD lawyer, as an eligible voter, submitted a letter to the political party registrar and the EC members, urging them to consider the dissolution of Puea Thai Party and stripping the party’s leader and executives’
the rights to vote and stand for an election.

Mr Nitithorn said the Puea Thai Party has involved with the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) and the group’s protest which attempted to overthrow the monarchy has become national threat and infringed the constitution.

The PAD lawyer also accused the Puea Thai executives of letting their party members committed unlawful actions.
