Thai Security Forces Step Up Efforts to Curb Anti-Government
Hundreds of Thai police and soldiers were deployed Tuesday to prevent anti-government demonstrators from spreading in Bangkok. As anti-government protesters continued calling for the government to resign, there were brief clashes between protesters and security personnel.
Police temporarily halted a convoy of protesters headed to 11 locations where the government has banned demonstrations. But a few hours later, the protesters appeared to have gotten around police lines to head toward the sites.
A police detective, who asked not be named, said security personnel will avoid using force.
