Army headquarters hit by another grenade blast

A grenade has been fired into the army headquarters, shattering the windows of commander Anupong Paojinda’s office.

The attack took place about 40 minutes after midnight yesterday.

A grenade fired from an M79 launcher landed near Gen Anupong’s office on the sixth floor. The impact of the explosion shattered the windows of the commander’s office, a source said.

The blast occurred amid tight security provided by three companies of soldiers numbering 475 troops.

The source said Gen Anupong had instructed the army not to make the attack public. Police from the Scientific Crime Detection Division were called in to collect evidence.

The army chief also asked soldiers to be on extra alert to prevent future attacks.

This is the second time the army headquarters has come under grenade attack.
