On the heels of TOT’s 3G deployment it seems that True Move may be secretly testing 3G in Chiang Mai as well. Speaking to some iPhone 3G users in the Muang area of Chiang Mai, I’ve found that in many areas of the city are getting a steady signal but have not noticed a big change in speed. Some have been complaining that its been interfering with their service as their iPhones would hop on the 3G signal but would get missed calls and dropped calls on occasions.
Talking with an industry insider, I was informed that True Move has not received any official authorization to deploy 3G equipment in addition to their current networks in Bangkok and Hua Hin. So could this be a result of the previously blogged about cooperation between TOT and CAT to blanket the nation with their for-rent-3G networks? No one is saying anything. A True Move representative I contacted is denying any knowledge of 3G availability outside their current advertised networks so your guess is as good as mine.
