The victim, identified as Mr. Anurak, known as “Latte,” was discovered face-down in the water near the BMTA bus depot for route 510 in Khlong Nueng subdistrict. The grisly discovery was made by a 52-year-old scrap collector, Mr. Tinnakorn, who first noticed an abandoned black full-face RD helmet by the roadside before spotting the body in the canal and alerting authorities.
Forensic examination of the scene revealed drag marks on the road, indicating the victim was moved. Several of his personal items were missing, including a white Honda Giorno motorcycle without a license plate and two mobile phones—an iPhone and a Xiaomi. Preliminary investigation suggests the motive was robbery, with the assailant likely killing the rider to steal his possessions.
The victim’s family had earlier filed a missing person report on the same morning. According to his mother, Mr. Anurak worked as a nightly public transport rider in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang and Sukhumvit areas, operating from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. She last saw him when he returned home for dinner at 8:00 p.m. on December 7 before leaving for work. His girlfriend, Ms. Sky, raised the alarm when she was unable to contact him the next morning—a break from his routine of regularly updating her during his shifts.
Police Superintendent Pol Col Athimes Chaiyasarnvichai stated that aside from the discarded helmet, there were no clear signs of a struggle at the scene, leading investigators to believe the attack was swift and targeted. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area, analyzing the victim’s digital ride-hailing history, and interviewing potential witnesses.
