Historic Riverside Market Buildings Collapse into Nan River in Uttaradit
UTTARADIT – Six shop-houses in a century-old riverside market collapsed into the Nan River in Uttaradit’s Tha Sak district on Thursday, following severe riverbank erosion caused by earlier flooding. The incident prompted the emergency evacuation of over forty households but resulted in no casualties.

The structural failure occurred after residents reported audible cracking and visible damage to buildings throughout the previous day. The collapse culminated in the complete destruction of a three-story shop-house owned by 62-year-old Phulsuk Santinron, who described hearing loud cracking sounds around 2:40 AM before evacuating belongings ahead of the building’s failure.

Authorities attribute the disaster to September’s heavy flooding, which eroded the riverbank and undermined building foundations. As water levels receded, the compromised soil structure triggered subsidence. Municipal workers and volunteers swiftly evacuated residents and secured the area, which has now been declared an emergency disaster zone.
