Phuket Immigration Arrests Three Nigerians for Visa Overstays Up to 196 Days

PHUKET – Immigration authorities have detained three Nigerian nationals for violating Thailand’s visa regulations, with one individual exceeding his permitted stay by nearly seven months. The arrests are part of an ongoing crackdown targeting foreign nationals who overstay their visas, as well as broader efforts to combat organized crime on the island.

The suspects—identified as 30-year-old Jude (overstayed by two days), 47-year-old Chukwuemeka (137 days), and 34-year-old Onyekachi (196 days)—were apprehended during a targeted operation ordered by national police command. All three now face charges under Thailand’s Immigration Act and have been transferred for further legal proceedings.

Phuket Immigration officials stressed that the operation aligns with a nationwide campaign to enforce immigration laws, including the Foreign Workers’ Employment Act and the Foreign Business Act. The initiative aims not only to address visa violations but also to disrupt potential criminal networks operating under the radar.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining Phuket’s reputation as a secure destination for tourists and residents alike. Overstayers risk fines, deportation, and possible blacklisting, depending on the severity of their violations.
