Teenager, 16, Stabs 53-Year-Old Man to Death in Bangkok Temple Dispute

A 53-year-old man died after being stabbed by a 16-year-old boy following a confrontation over the teenager’s behavior near a temple in central Bangkok. The fatal attack occurred on the afternoon of December 27, with the victim succumbing to his injuries in hospital despite emergency intervention.

Police were called to the scene near Wat Boromniwas Ratchaworawihan on Rama VI Road in Pathum Wan district around 5:00 p.m. after reports of a stabbing. They found the victim, identified as Kritsarat Ruamcharoen, on the pavement with two severe stab wounds—one to his left torso and another under his left armpit.

Rescue volunteers performed CPR, used an automated external defibrillator (AED), and attempted to control the bleeding before rushing Kritsarat to Hua Chiew Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The teenage suspect remained near the scene and surrendered to police without resistance. The knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered as evidence.

During initial questioning, the 16-year-old, who lives near the temple, stated that Kritsarat had reprimanded him for what was deemed inappropriate behavior. The teenager said he became angry and dissatisfied, leading to the escalation that ended in the fatal stabbing.

The incident has raised concerns among local residents about youth violence and the rapid escalation of conflicts in public areas. Police noted the case underscores ongoing challenges related to juvenile offenders and conflict resolution.

The suspect has been handed over to investigators at Pathum Wan Police Station and will face legal proceedings under Thailand’s juvenile justice system. Authorities will follow specialized procedures for youth offenders, including coordination with child protection agencies.
