According to Yarang district police, approximately five individuals believed to be insurgents arrived at an Islamic university in Khao Toom sub-district. The group first subdued and restrained two security guards stationed in front of the campus before proceeding to plant and detonate explosives at the nearby ATM. The blast destroyed the machine, but the perpetrators were unable to retrieve any money.

The suspects fled the scene, taking the two stolen shotguns with them. The incident follows another high-profile robbery in the restive southern region, where a brazen heist took place at a gold shop in a Su-Ngai Kolok district shopping mall in Narathiwat on Sunday night.
