The Bureau of the Royal Household has announced the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. She was 93 years old. Her Majesty passed away peacefully at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital at 9:21 PM on Friday, October 24, marking the end of an era for the Kingdom of Thailand.

According to the official announcement, the Queen Mother had been under continuous medical care at the hospital since September 7, 2019. Over these years, her medical team diligently monitored and treated various health conditions. Her Majesty’s condition recently developed into sepsis on October 17. Despite the doctors’ exhaustive efforts and most advanced medical care, her health gradually declined in the following days.

His Majesty the King has commanded that royal funeral rites be conducted with the highest honors, following sacred and ancient royal traditions. The royal urn will be placed at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall within the Grand Palace, where members of the public will be able to pay their respects. In a separate royal command, His Majesty has also decreed a one-year mourning period throughout the kingdom, effective from the date of Her Majesty’s passing. The nation now enters a period of profound sorrow, united in grief for the beloved Queen Mother who dedicated her life to the service of the Thai people.
