Cambodia Accused of Ceasefire Violation in Fresh Border Clashes
BANGKOK — Thailand has reported renewed fighting along its contested border with Cambodia, accusing Cambodian forces of violating the ceasefire agreement by launching incursions into Thai territory on Wednesday.

Fresh Clashes Erupt at Key Border Points
According to Thai military officials, Cambodian troops crossed into Thai-controlled areas near Phu Makhuea and Chong An Ma, engaging in firefights with Thai soldiers. The skirmishes mark the second alleged breach of the July 28 ceasefire, which had temporarily halted five days of deadly fighting.
The Royal Thai Army claims its forces repelled the incursion but condemned Cambodia’s actions as a “blatant violation” of the truce brokered by Malaysia and supported by the U.S. and China.
Thailand Vows Defensive Response
Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvaree stated that Thai troops exercised restraint but were forced to return fire in self-defense. “We remain committed to the ceasefire, but we will not allow our sovereignty to be challenged,” he said.
The clashes threaten to derail upcoming General Border Committee (GBC) talks scheduled for August 4 in Phnom Penh, where both nations were expected to discuss long-term de-escalation.

Cambodia Yet to Respond
As of press time, Cambodian officials had not publicly addressed Thailand’s allegations. Previous ceasefire violations have been met with mutual accusations, with each side blaming the other for instigating hostilities.

The renewed fighting underscores the fragility of the truce, which had temporarily paused a conflict that has already claimed over 30 lives and displaced nearly 300,000 civilians.
