Wave of Coordinated Bombings Rocks Southern Thailand, Injuring 10
A meticulously planned series of bomb attacks struck three southern provinces yesterday morning, leaving ten people wounded and raising fresh concerns about escalating insurgent violence in Thailand’s restive deep south. The synchronized assaults targeted both civilian gatherings and security forces, marking one of the most brazen attacks this year.
Triple Bombing at Pattani Red Cross Charity Fair Wounds Seven in Southern Thailand
The violence began before dawn at Pattani’s annual Red Cross fair, where three improvised explosive devices detonated in rapid succession near vendor tents on Suan Somdet Road. The first explosion ripped through an unmanned security post at 4:44 AM, followed by two subsequent blasts at nearby electrical poles just before sunrise.
Among the seven injured were five local vendors – Sorleehee Duerame, Usa Yuden, Somsri Yuden, Yupha Yuden and Weerachi Sae Chin – suffering various limb and facial injuries. Two special operations police officers, Senior Sergeant Major Atthawut Na Sngkhla and Sergeant Sahaparp Passa, sustained chest wounds from bomb fragments. Pattani Provincial Police Chief Maj. Gen. Santhat Chuephuttan confirmed investigators found evidence pointing to a cell of 5-10 militants who carefully planted the devices under cover of darkness.
Just hours later, another explosion rocked Narathiwat province near a strategic water reservoir adjacent to a border patrol base. The blast severely injured Police Sub-Lieutenant Jiaraphong Charoen, who suffered traumatic amputation of his left foot, while two colleagues escaped with minor wounds. Security analysts suspect the location was deliberately chosen to target officials maintaining critical infrastructure in the conflict-prone region.
Authorities have linked the attacks to known insurgent networks operating in the Malay-Muslim majority provinces. Forensic teams continue examining bomb components while military patrols intensify along the Malaysian border. The incidents follow a similar pattern to a night market bombing earlier this month, suggesting a coordinated campaign by separatist elements.
